How to Use This Calculator

Enter your monthly bill and system size

Enter your monthly TEDAS/EPIAS electricity bill in Turkish Lira and the system size you want to install in kWp (kilowatt-peak). For a rough guide: a 3 kWp system costs approximately ₺52,500 and covers most of a typical Istanbul apartment's usage. A 10 kWp system is suitable for a villa or small business.

Select your city

City selection determines peak sun hours (PSH) — the most important variable for system output. Antalya (5.5 PSH) produces 37% more electricity per panel than Istanbul (4.0 PSH). Southern Turkey has excellent solar resources comparable to Southern Europe.

Understand net metering (sayaç)

Turkey's net metering system (Yönetmelik) allows grid-tied solar owners to export excess electricity to TEDAS at 85% of the retail rate. This means if you produce more than you use, you earn credit — reducing your bill to near zero for most residential systems in southern Turkey.

The Formula

Annual Production (kWh) = System kWp × PSH × 365 × 0.80 efficiency Panels = System kWp × 1000 ÷ 550W (round up) System Cost (₺) = System kWp × ₺17,500/kWp average Monthly Savings = Annual Savings ÷ 12 Annual Savings = (Self-consumed kWh × ₺3.5/kWh) + (Exported kWh × ₺3.5 × 85%) Payback = System Cost ÷ Annual Savings 25-yr Savings = Sum of Annual Savings with 0.5%/yr degradation − System Cost

The calculator uses a blended electricity rate of ₺3.5/kWh as an approximation for 2026 Turkish residential tariffs. Actual rates vary by consumption tier and EPIAS pricing. System costs of ₺15,000-20,000/kWp include panels, inverter, installation, and permits. Ground-mount systems add ~15% for additional racking.

Example

Mehmet — 8 kWp system in Antalya

Mehmet owns a villa in Antalya with a ₺1,500/month electricity bill. He wants to install an 8 kWp rooftop system to reduce costs.

System8 kWp rooftop, Antalya (5.5 PSH)
Panels15 × 550W panels
Annual production~12,848 kWh/yıl
System cost₺140,000

Result

Monthly savings₺3,750/ay
Annual savings₺45,000/yıl
Payback period~3.1 years
25-yr net savings₺985,000+

With Antalya's excellent solar resource, Mehmet's 8 kWp system pays back in just over 3 years — one of the fastest solar ROIs in Europe. The combination of high Turkish electricity prices and abundant Mediterranean sunlight makes solar an exceptional investment for Aegean and Mediterranean homeowners.

FAQ

Yes — Turkey combines high electricity prices, excellent solar resources, and a functional net metering system to make solar one of the best investments for homeowners. Payback periods are typically 3-6 years in southern Turkey (Antalya, Adana, Gaziantep) and 5-8 years in the north (Istanbul, Bursa). Over 25 years, a typical residential system generates 5-10× its installation cost in savings.
Turkey's net metering regulation allows residential and commercial solar owners to export excess electricity to TEDAS (distribution companies) at the retail rate, capped at the system's installed capacity. Excess credits roll over monthly and are settled annually. Systems up to 1 MWp are eligible. The process requires a licensed installer (EPDK licensed), a bi-directional meter installation by TEDAS, and typically 30-90 days for approval.
A complete rooftop solar system in Turkey costs approximately ₺15,000-20,000/kWp installed in 2026, including 550W panels, string inverter, mounting system, wiring, and installation. A 5 kWp residential system costs ₺75,000-100,000. Prices vary by panel brand (Longi, Jinko, local Hanwha), inverter brand (Huawei, SMA, Fronius), and regional labor costs. Southern Turkey cities generally have more competitive pricing due to higher installer density.
Antalya (5.5 PSH) and Adana (5.4 PSH) have Turkey's best solar resources for residential use. Gaziantep (5.3 PSH) and Konya (5.2 PSH) are excellent for agricultural and commercial systems. Istanbul (4.0 PSH) and Bursa (4.2 PSH) still make economic sense due to high electricity prices but need 25-37% more panels for the same output as southern cities.
